FARMHOUSE LOCATION

The farmhouse is located in the village of Gharb, which means ‘west’, and is the western most village in Gozo. It is one of the prettiest and most peaceful villages located away from the hustle and bustle of Victoria. It is known for the fine architecture of its houses and the ornate finely carved stone balconies, many of them centuries old.

The splendidly ornate baroque Church of the Immaculate Conception, whose concave façade, with its floral decoration and sculptures of Faith, Hope and Charity, make a powerful impact, dominates the centre of the village. Critics are divided over this 17th century architectural gem. Some believe it’s no more than a copy of Francesco Borromini’s Sant’Agnes in Agone which is located in the Piazza Navona in Rome. Others maintain that the work is original. Whatever it design origins, the church is a delight to the eye.

Close by, just off the main road to Victoria, is the shrine church of Ta’Pinu, a centre of pilgrimage and which has become world famous. Most Gozitan weddings end with the bride putting her bouquet on the alter of the Lady Chapel in hopes of a happy marriage. (see also the description within ‘Places of Interest’ in ‘Things to Do’)

The local coastal scenery and seascapes in the region are magnificent and varied, offering various walks and vantage spots. Cliffs, caves and oddities of nature combine to make the seascape the most spectacular in Gozo – The Dwejra Coast, Azure Window, Inland Sea, and Fungus Rock are all in the vicinity of Gharb.
